Question: I have not been able to enter 2 donations because the donators did not write in their email address. Can I put my email address in instead, for their donation?
Answer: You certainly can, but we would instead recommend that you create something unique like nameofdonor@islandcountydems.org (where nameofdonor is the first or last name of your donor -- anything identifiable -- and islandcountydems.org is your domain).
This is important because email addresses are treated as a semi-unique identifier in our database system. So if you use the full CRM database, records with the same email address will be identified as potentially the same persons.
For purposes of processing the CC donation, it is not important that the email address is correct. The confirmation email will bounce but no one will ever see it. So the only problem here is that the user won't have a confirmation email.
It's also important to note that your donor will not have any visibility to our (Blue Utopia's) role in processing the donation. When they get their CC statement, they will see Blue Utopia as the line entry for their donation. Since they didn't come to your online site and didnt see the confirmation page and didn't get the email, they will be unaware of our role. Sometimes they will visit our website and it will be obvious; sometimes they call us directly and we help them; and sometimes they just initiate a chargeback. The latter is costly to you so it's always better if you can somehow get word to them, even if it's a disclaimer at the bottom of your thank you letter, letting them know about us and our role.
